- Molar teeth are large flat teeth with somewhat square shaped surfaces present in the back our upper and lower jaws.
- Their primary function is to chew and grind food for swallowing.
- There are total of 12 permanent molars in adults and 8 in children.
- In adults there are 3 types of molars- 1st , 2nd & 3rd (wisdom tooth) molar.
- Although, wisdom tooth is not present in every person’s jaw, it may not be there or may not have been erupted.
- In some cases, partially erupted impacted wisdom tooth may result in sever pain and even damage the adjacent tooth, it needs to be removed by a dentist.
- However, removing wisdom tooth will not hamper the functional properties of your jaw, as it has minimal contribution in chewing food compared to other set of molars.
